WestPlay > About our Programs Lesson Programs at WestPlay Park: Beginner Horsemanship and Recreational Riding (both English and Western) on our horse or yours - thru Elite Equestrian Athlete Development. All Programs run on a monthly, 6 month or 12 month schedule. You can begin any time, and choose to come once a week, twice a week or more. Our new FLEX Program includes twice a week lessons spring thru fall, once a week thru winter and customized holiday breaks! WestPlay Park Instructors are qualified, experienced and safety conscious: while there are program variations between English and Western, the basic horsemanship principles are the same and will be emphasized. In order to ensure all riders are safe as well as having fun, all programs begin with a one-on-one private lesson. This includes a rider evaluation, familiarization with safe horse handling and horsemanship theory - as well as a short first ride. Once the rider is grounded in the safety principles and demonstrated the ability to ride independently with good control, a move to small group lessons can be made. Theory and groundwork continues in group lessons with the goal of developing well-rounded Horsepeople, whether they ride English or Western, to compete or just for recreation. WestPlay Park offers Certificates of Completion for the following courses in 2009: Basic Equine First Aid, Standard First Aid (human), Basic Stable Management, Equine Anatomy: Form & Function, Equine Nutrition & Body Condition Scoring, Sports Psychology for Riders, Sports Nutrition for Riders. WestPlay Park also offers semi-annual testing for our riders participating in the Equine Canada Rider Levels 1 - 8 Program. Lease the horse most suited to your needs on a full (6 days/week) or partial (3 days/week) basis. During your lease, this is YOUR horse! Leasing includes: - enrollment in the FLEX Lesson Program - additional practice/recreational rides - ongoing supervision & assistance - your choice of box stall board in our heated barn or paddock board - all routine farrier and equine health maintenance costs.
